Finding Work
We had arrived at the safe land finally and I was unpacking I only had 1,000 dollars to pay rent, buy food, clothes, and pay for heat and water.
“Where are you going?” Cassy asked me. I picked up my purse and keys to my house.
“To find work, we need food don’t we?” i asked she nodded. i grabbed the keys to the lock on my new bike. it was ice blue. I got on my bike. I started pedaling. I was going to look at the famous restaurant named Scorpios. i got there and I saw the most discouraging thing ever. “We do not need help, newbies.” I frowned and rode away. I went to the hair salon and saw a good sign “We do need help!” I smiled and walked in. I walked up to the receptionist. She was about 30 and had brown hair.
“Hi, I’m here to apply for a job.” I said. She looked up from her computer. She looked at me.
“Janitorial? Or cutting the hair?” She asked.
“Uh, hair stylist.” I said.
“Did you go to school?” She asked. Her smile turned to a frown. I shook my head slowly.
“Then you can’t apply to be a hair stylist, I’m sorry. How bout being a janitor?” She asked.
“Sorry but I didn’t go to school for that.” I joked. She looked at me like I was crazy.
“We don’t have a school for that.”
“Oh, I was joking.”
“Well we don’t joke around here. Sorry but your not, Style your hair, type.” She said. I looked at her then I nodded and laughed and just walked away. I got back on my bike. I decided to pull out my mPad. It was something that the Safe land created. The “m” stood for magic. So we could use it outside of the Safe Land and we wouldn’t be tracked by it. I typed in the command “Find jobs.” and it pulled up several results. I decided my next stop was the pre-school. I rode in the golden streets of Safe Land for about 3 miles to get there and have the kids scream at my blue hair. I walked away, hurt. One kid had said,
“CRAZY BLUE HAIRED LADY!” And then ran to the teacher. Apparently I shouldn’t work there. Then I decided for the bank. I got there and they refused me for my “Lack of professional appearance.” and I went to the training center for kids. This is where the kids who were born here learned how to fight. I showed the owner mypower and resume and he looked at me.
“YES! We could really use you! Can you start tomorrow? At 10 in the morning and go till 7 at night? You’ll get paid 10 dollars an hour!” He begged. And I nodded. I went home and told Cassy. Then I called Maxie and she was going to look for jobs tomorrow. I wondered what she’d get a job as. Maybe a hair stylist, she did have great hair and cut it herself. I didn’t know. I can’t wait to tell you about my first day at work!
